A common first woodwind, and the one where the ladder is easiest to see. Student clarinets like the Yamaha YCL-255 and Buffet B12 are plastic resin, while the step-up Yamaha YCL-450 and Buffet E11 and the pro Buffet R13 and Yamaha YCL-650 move to grenadilla wood. The Leblanc Bliss came in both. Plastic shrugs off a cold car and a dropped case. Wood sounds warmer and needs more care, so check it for cracks.
